Dress Up Your Outdoor Space With Outdoor Decorations

November 25th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

I love my backyard. It lacks accessories to make it shine above and beyond an average backyard though it has many beautiful plants.I looked for beautiful things to add to my garden but only found overpriced, poor quality garden decor, being offered in the stores.Improper handling damaged the outdoor decorations and made them ugly, resulting to  fewer choices. My yard’s outdoor garden décor needs unique grden decorations.I had to improve the look of my yard, because my parents-in-law were coming to visit our home for the first time. They are really nice people, but a bit hard to please. Garden Decorations

The internet had always helped me in the past so I took a look. The patio became extremely pleasing.I discovered Candy’s Garden Oasis Plus.Beautiful, funny, whimsical outdoor décor and other related items that are not outdoor décor were available at the great website.I found everything I needed.Candy’s Garden Oasis Plus had garden décor and furniture for my covered patio.I got a Baker’s Style Wine and Glass Rack, accentuated some beautiful potted plants, some candles, and small garden statuary on the shelves. The wall between two candle sconces was emphasized by a Fancy Sun Wall Mirror.I hung some Moroccan lanterns, some candles ,and wind chimes for a surrounding influence.I garnished my patio furniture with some pillows and a Frog and Lily Pad Fountain on the table to finish up the job. Garden Décor

The large lawn and garden area have always been a drab.It was occupied with plants , the lawn was green but with a small number of flowers.I wanted the WOW factor, but not in a bad way, and found it with outdoor garden décor offered by Candy Brun. Two beautiful fountains were set up on each corner of the yard.A Standing Designer Fountain and a Forest Fantasy Fountain gave each corner a very different feeling to it.Garden Statuaries were decked on some strategic places. From the trees, bird houses were hung. The lawn décor really made the lawn interesting to gaze at.I was really delighted on how the lawn and garden turned out.

My in-laws used to live in this area before retirement took them to Florida.A garden party was agreed on while they were here as they still know many people who live here.I was able to get a ten foot by twenty foot tent from Candy’s Garden Oasis Plus for a very good price.I found that I could use many of the outdoor decorations to decorate the tent. The party and visit turned out to a very favorable outcome. My in-laws were so charmed by the garden and patio and spent most of their time there. What an easy and great experience it was to shop online, for everything I needed for my yard. The Perfect Xmas Gift is a Tree!

November 25th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

Are you the person who loves giving unusual Christmas gift ideas? Do you love the idea of surprising your friends and family members with gifts ideas for Christmas that are uncommon, perfect for them or just off the wall? If so, why not give them a tree! Why give somebody one more pair of woolly socks or one more dull book when you can give the something that they can look on with happiness every single day? A tree is a wonderful Christmas gift idea and you will be surprised at the varieties that you have available to you.

One big advantage to giving someone a tree for Christmas is that you are looking at a truly eco-friendly alternative. Instead of spending money on something that is just going to get tossed into a landfill in a few years, why not give them something that betters the world that we all live in? Whether you choose a slender sapling that is going to grow into a mighty oak, or you fancy the idea of cherry blossoms that bloom in the spring, you will find that this can be the perfect gift for anyone on your Christmas list who is looking for something beautiful and meaningful.

Also consider that it is a lovely gift for someone who has had a life changing experience. Has a friend or family member got married recently or have they had a baby? One thing that trees are wonderful for is marking growth and it can be a real blessing to see a tree grow even as a relationship or a child does. Watching a tree grow is an emotional experience and the tree itself can act as a fantastic celebration of the time that has passed.

One thing that might make someone pause before they get a tree is they might wonder where their friends will put it. After all, not everyone has a garden big enough to plant trees! On the other hand, just about everyone has a deck or a corner where they can grow a tree in a pot and when the tree grows taller, you can be sure that someone is going to be happy with a tree donation. Your friend’s tree can be planted in a park or forest preserve and they can visit it whenever they want to.

When you are bored of the same old run of gifts, take some time and think about what trees are going to appeal to them. This can result in a huge difference. You will certainly find that people love receiving a tree that will deliver all the festive mood and cheer of the season.

The Window Sill Herb Garden

November 24th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

The Window Sill Herb Garden

With a window sill herb garden just outside you kitchen, for example, you will be adding color, warmth and fragrance to your home. There is an abundance of reasons why people might prefer to have a window sill herb garden as opposed to one that grows outside.  A big reason is comfort. With a garden on your windowsill, you won’t have to deal with the elements of the changing seasons and will have fresh herbs all year long.

While you can grow almost any type of herbal plant in a windowsill herb garden, there are some that are more suited to this method than others. Plants like oregano are ideal because it is compact in size and has a truly wonderful flavor. Basil, as well as rosemary, are two additiional herbs which will do wonderfully in your windowsill herb garden. Herbs can serve different purposes. Some, like rosemary, can repel pests and fungus while others may flower and bring beauty, provide wonderful taste to your dishes, or have medicinal uses.

These herbal plants will invariably do best on windowsills that face south or southeast, since, for northern hemisphere locations, that is the direction of greatest sunlight. Most plants prefer maximum sunlight for growth and health and herbal plants are no different. Herbal plants prefer at least five hours of sunlight per day. And don’t forget to keep your herbs out of cold drafts, especially in the winter.

You can grow from seed if you like, but many people find it advantageous to start by purchasing seedlings in pots which are 6-12″ deep. And don’t forget herb garden kits! They come complete, having everything you need: the containers, plants in the form of seedlings (frequently) and complete instructions on how to nurture and grow them.

But plants are living things and can’t just be put on auto-grow. You need to know about them, such as their gestation periods, when to cut back and prune, harvest and dry, store and use. Some plants will also overtake others if you don’t tend to them and prune them back on a regular basis. You want your window sill herb garden to look as though it belongs there in the windowsill, so there is some measure of attention that they will require from you.

Water with care! You must always keep a proper balance between wet and dry, not flooding and not parching. They don’t like soggy roots so don’t let the soil stay damp constantly If your new kit is already in flower, go slowly. Don’t jump in and cut them back right away. Give them time to acclimatize to their new environment. Also, if you live in a location, such as an apartment complex in a city, and don’t have access to good sunlight in any window, you can purchase artificial light. Generally, your plants will thrive under this kind of light, but it’s always good to check with the nursery or kit maker to be sure.

A window sill herb garden is a great way to spend your free time and if you’re an avid cook, you understand that there is no substitute for having fresh spices and herbs at your disposal. Growing your own herb garden and having it right there where you can see and smell it’s wonders is a great thing, and it will reward you in many ways adding life and beauty to you and to your home.

Great Tips to Greater Tomatoes - How to Grow the Best Tomatoes

November 24th, 2009    Subscribe To Our Feed

Gardening: Tomatoes

Herbs can be grown inside your home by placing them in pots or containers. You may also put them in window boxes or baskets that are hung.

Just like all plants, herbs need the basic requirements for successful growing: soil, sunlight, and water. Sunlight is important to herbs, whether they will be grown indoors or outside. Hence, you should place the herbs in the kitchen or somewhere in room that faces the south or the west to be able to acquire a great amount of sunlight. Although various herbs have different requirements for the amount of sunlight they need, usually, they all should have to have a sunny location. Nevertheless, some herb growers use “grow lamps” or fluorescent lamps to supplement the sunlight that may be lacking.

You need to put some fertilizer to the soil from time to time. Your potted plant needs the fertilizer to replenish lost nutrients to the soil. If you are unsure of the right time to nourish your plant, look for the flower. The best time to fertilize your plants is when they are in bloom.

PLANTING

Nearly all tomatoes need staking, so get some 6′ hardwood stakes and set them along the mounds about six feet apart, one after the other. Next to each one of these stakes, plant a tomato seedling. Water in well when finished. As the tomato grows you will need to use the stake and some twine (or flexible cording), to support and hold the plant upright. Do not “choke or damage plants by tying too tight.

CARE & MAINTENANCE

Tomatoes grow fast and constantly like to eat and drink.  They are greedy plants. Water them daily, usually in the cool of the evening, and liquid fertilize once per fortnight. Use a fast acting liquid fertilizer high in potassium and phosphor. This will aid flowering and fruiting. Too much nitrogen will produce a healthy, vigorous plant but with few tomatoes.

The plant will grow suckers between the main stem and main leaves. Although these look healthy and fresh, they should be removed. These will cause a mass of foliage an the plant will tend towards over production. This will lead to poor quality tomatoes. Check plants constantly for any signs of disease and pest infection, removing sick or infested leaves. Tomatoes don’t like their roots disturbed. Do not trample on or dig around roots. Walk along the furrows and not the mounds.

For those of you who cannot spend too much time looking after your plant, but for some reasons you are keen to keep some potted plants, look out for the types that does not require too much attention. You may consider to adopt cacti or dracaena fragrans (also known as corn tree) since they do not require too much maintenance. And they can be planted in pots
