The Importance of Bonsai Pruning

Pruning bonsai trees are very important in maintaining the overall shape of the bonsais as well as to stimulate new growth. There are some other plants that naturally react very well in pruning, while others tend to harm itself on the process, especially when prune a t the wrong season or time of the year. It is important also to do research about the specifications of your bonsais and the best time to prune them.  Commonly, it is best to prune new growth bonsais during the growing season (around late spring), while hard wood bonsais (or old growth) are best to prune during mid-autumn.
Tools for bonsai pruning are very crucial and you must have the right tools to do bonsai pruning, otherwise it would be a complete disaster and might ruin your bonsais in the long run.
Here are some tolls for pruning:

Pruning the root part of the bonsai is very necessary because its function is to let the root grow new roots. Due to the minimal size of the containers where bonsais are placed, it makes the root underdeveloped in size.  By pruning the roots, it will help give space for the root to grow, and it will be responsible in absorbing moisture and nutrients from the soil in return.  Like any other plants, the roots structure of the bonsais is important in the growth and longevity of the plant.
To keep the beauty of the bonsai, the foliage is very much needed to be pruned. If you are into bonsais – both experts and beginners, you have a particular design as to what your bonsai should look like. Pruning the foliage not only can help you achieve the desired effect, it also helps you remove dead leaves and keep the plant beautiful and healthy.
Also, be reminded that there should be a balance between pruning the roots and pruning the foliage, as these two are connected to each other. When you reduce the leaves or foliage of your tree, you are also lessening the strains of the roots.
Just remember that pruning bonsai is a fun activity. Don’t worry if your tree doesn’t look like the way you want it to be at first.  If you’re going to keep focus on your bonsai and learn the techniques, in time you are going to have a bonsai that will be the talk of your neighbors.
