Should we stay at home for our weddings or go overseas for luxury?
July 2nd, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedIn general it is a hard topic to really decipher.Everybody imagines what thier wedding is going to be like, and we all have different scenarios.Although not everyone will want to go abroad to get married, with the recession in flow as it is, you might save some money in doing so.
Let’s have a look at some of the Pros of weddings abroad. So if your wondering about heading to somewhere like the Caribbean it will be easy to find some good points. At the start of the list is the weather, you wont be let down by unpredictable weather. The sun will have his hat on and you can be sure of a warm wedding. Another item on this agenda is that sometimes getting married in the tropics is proving to be cheaper than getting married at home in a church, and with so many people out there to help you its become so easy. Getting married at home has so much cost attached to it now that it may be considered a good idea to spend the same amount of money or maybe a little less on going to a luxury location and enjoying your wedding there.
Obviously the best part about it is that you can start your honeymoon straight away, no extra flights because you’re already in the perfect location to have a great time. Why get married at home when you can have a luxury holiday for your wedding.
Now we can’t just look at the good parts about this, unfortunately there are some Cons. The first main reason that this might not be a good idea is that some people wont be able to make it to your wedding, they will find it hard to get some time off work and some family members either wont be able to afford it, or they could find travelling hard. One problem that might arise is that some locations have a minimum residency policy. This means that you would have to live in the place you want to get married for a period of time; of course the flip side does also mean an extended holiday.
One more problem you might find is that the wedding you have abroad might not be recognised by the church at home, but if you don’t mind having a civil ceremony followed by a blessing when you get back you can overcome this pretty easily.
So what is the best decision? Some people will like to get married in a church, but some will like to have thier wedding abroad on a sandy beach, in the end it depends on what you really want. What is it that you would like to do on your special day, a Caribbean holiday in the place of your dreams, or at the church where you know you will have all of your family and friends to be with you?

Improving Your Digital Photo Skills
July 1st, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedIn this age of digital cameras, you have probably thought that you can just point and shoot and out will appear a great shot.Hold on, don’t go so fast. The honest truth is, you may have a great digital camera, but if you are clueless in what to do, you will take ugly shots.
Well, I would like to share with you some great tips on improving your digital photography skills. These tips are coming from years of experience as a San Diego wedding photographer. These tips all involve lighting and they are going to be some of the biggest keys to your success in taking your photos.
First tip in lighting. Now if you are taking shots outdoors during the day, natural sunlight provides some of the best lighting possible. Now you are probably thinking, “that’s easy, when you are a San Diego photographer since it is always shiny there”, when in actuality really bright sunlight can cast harsh shadows. Or it can wash out the details in faces if the sun is overhead.
Overall, you are going to want to take most of the shots with the sun behind you. This prevents the harsh shadows that can be caused by the sun.But there will be those times and instances when you want different angles to get those shadows into the shots.
Now that we have addressed the shots during the day, what about those night shots?
The key to taking photos at night is turning off your flash. Now if it is pictch black, of course you will need it, but if there are some lighting, use it, but make sure the shutter speeds are slower to let the light in.Another thing, make sure you keep a steady hand when you take your shot or you can blur the photos.Applying these couple of techniques will make a dramatic difference for those nights shots you take.
The final piece of advice to use for lighting is using the golden hour to capture great shots. There is something photographers call the “golden hour” or magic hour, and that time is sunrise and sunset.
During these times of the day you will capture great shots that allow you to capture more warmer and inviting colors. You’ll be able to get that golden lighting that isn’t available during any other time of day.
There you go. Probably the biggest key in taking greatshots is to make sure you take advantage of the natural lighting. Knowing what techniques to use for different parts of the day, or just scheduling a photo shoots to capture those times of day will help you become an excellent photographer.

Customize Your Wedding with Personalized Ribbons

You can dress up wedding invitations by adding a small personalized ribbon bow to the fronts. It makes a cute little keepsake for invitees. You can also finish your wrapped gifts for the wedding party and your wedding gift for your spouse to be with personalized ribbons.
Of course, personalized ribbon is the ideal way to customize your wedding favors and the ideas are endless. For doubly personalized wedding favors, top favor box lids with personalized ribbon and place a personalized sticker in the center. Remember that you can use the wedding couple’s names and the wedding date on the ribbon or a special message or quote that’s meaningful to you and your spouse to be.
Personalized ribbons also look great on organza wedding favor bags. No matter what type of favor container you use, remember that a small thank you card of some kind should always accompany wedding favors. Using a hole-punch to make a single hole in the thank you card is a perfect and easy way to add personalized ribbon for attaching the card to any container.
Personalized ribbons can also be used for tying rolled napkins at the reception dinner. They’re ideal for tying the ring onto the ring bearer pillow as well as the finishing touch for the cake serving utensils. You can also attach bows made from personalized ribbon around the wedding cake plate or the cake’s display table. Personalized ribbon is also the perfect addition to the guest book table – add a ribbon bow to the book and to the pen.
Tie a personalized ribbon on the garter for a surprise! Tying personalized ribbons onto door handles at the reception location is a cute accent idea. You can also add personalized ribbon bows to car antennas!

From junk heap to a must have wedding accessory
June 30th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedWhen you solve a problem, especially one that’s related to your own needs, often you have little idea of where it may lead 30 or 40 years hence. Way back in 1972, Malcolm Lock, South Australian businessman and pioneer surfing identity had a problem. With the success of his wetsuit manufacturing he had to send to landfill, large volumes of neoprene rubber off-cuts and all this was costing him too much.
Have a cold drink and keep your hands warmer!
Being a surfie and local business identity, Malcolm Lock shared fairly regularly the odd beer or two with mates. Drinking, he’d noted how his hands became too cold, and his beer too hot. Knowing the insulating benefits of neoprene, he he wanted to “nut out” the problem
In a flash, the stubby holder was brilliantly there.
No more neoprene to throw away, no more cold hands and even best of all, colder beer for longer.
It’s no great surprise that, it’s Australia, where the stubby cooler was invented; they just dream for a cold beer. Very soon, the stubby cooler became a hugely popular event accessory. It was haute couture to have the best stubby holder – a cultural phenomenon was launched.
Where we are today….
The sheer simplicity of the stubby cooler and it’s practicality make it a an obligatory accessory for any serious party goer. As one might expect, this Australian cultural icon is much loved and has many names: amongst them, can coolers, stubby coolers, coozie, beer holders and many other local variations.
With the realization of the utility of the stubby cooler and the cultural significance of sinking a few beers at a wedding, the wedding stubby cooler is a must have accessory. There’s a wide range of wedding stubby cooler styles and if you need, you can have special ones done just for your wedding day.
When Malcolm solved his problem all those years ago, he had no idea that, one day, stubby holders would be a preferred wedding day accessory.

Easy Ideas for Beach Wedding Favors
June 29th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedEasy Ideas for Beach Wedding Favors
Beach Bags of Salt Water Taffy
For ocean side beach weddings, purchase little burlap or fabric beach bag favors and fill them with bulk wrapped salt water taffy. You may want to add a cute flip flop key chain or other novelty item. Rolls of Life Savers candies also work and you can even add personalized wrappers with the bride and groom’s names and the wedding date.
Alternatively, you could place clear packages of customized blue M&Ms candies into the bags of beach wedding favors. You could get blue M&Ms personalized with the bride and groom’s names or with a light-hearted theme message such as “Love’s a Beach.”
Mini Frisbees with Seashell Chocolates
It’s a tiny plastic plate – no, it’s a flying beach toy! Mini Frisbees filled with seashell-shaped chocolates make smart beach wedding favors. Wide mesh netting fabric is the perfect choice to cover the Frisbees before securing one end with ribbon and attaching a little starfish or seashell themed thank you card.
Beach Shovels of Candy
Buy children’s beach shovels in a color to go with your beach wedding. It’s a good idea to base the size on the place setting space and the look you want. Fill with wrapped candies or use candy packages that go with the wedding’s colors and themes. Secure the candy by using netting and gathering it up at the base of the shovel. Secure with ribbon and add more ribbon and a thank you card hanging from the handle.
Sea of Love Boats
Sailboats with room to hold candy or mints make great beach wedding favors. Make them even better by writing on the sails with a fine-tipped dark marker. The large one might read “Sailing together on the sea of love.” The smaller sails could have the bride and groom’s names or just their first initials such as “T + C.”
Message in a Bottle
Cork-topped mini glass bottles can make cute beach wedding favors. Your message inside each bottle favor could read “Love is a day at the beach. Thanks for being here with us. Kelly and Nicholas” Roll the notes and tie with narrow ribbon. You could add some tiny shells or silver colored starfish charms to the bottles.
